Ch. 1|First Encounter

By 不會寫小說

In the bustling heart of the city, sunlight streamed through the gaps between towering buildings, illuminating the streets as if to light the hopes of every passerby.

Xiao Li stood by the café window, cradling a cup of hot coffee, her thoughts drifting through past memories.

It was an ordinary afternoon, and she was troubled by her first novel, with words continuously crossed out, as if no phrase could perfectly express the surging emotions within her heart. Her friend Xiao Ya sat across from her, flipping through a thick novel, occasionally glancing up to observe Xiao Li's expression.

"Xiao Li, are you really going to finish this book?" Xiao Ya suddenly asked, interrupting Xiao Li's reverie.

"Yes, I've planned it out; this is the beginning of my dream," Xiao Li replied, forcing a smile, though a flicker of unease passed through her eyes.

"Have you figured out the protagonist's story?" Xiao Ya continued to inquire.

Xiao Li shook her head. "I want to write a story about pursuing dreams, but I don't know how to start."

At that moment, the café door chimed, and a gentleman walked in. He was tall, wearing a light gray trench coat, with neatly styled short hair and a faint smile on his face. Xiao Li's gaze was drawn to him, and she felt an unusual flutter in her heart.

The gentleman approached the counter, ordered an espresso, and then surveyed the room, his eyes meeting Xiao Li's. In that instant, her heart raced as if time had come to a standstill.

"Hello, may I sit here?" he asked Xiao Li and Xiao Ya, his tone gentle yet confident.

Xiao Li felt her cheeks warm. "Of course."

He smiled slightly and sat down, his gaze inadvertently drifting to the notebook in front of Xiao Li, filled with her snippets of inspiration and drafts.

"Are you writing something?" he asked, a hint of interest in his voice.

"Yes, I'm writing a novel," Xiao Li replied, slightly nervous, yet secretly thrilled to converse with such a gentleman.

"A novel? That's wonderful! I love reading too. What's your story about?"

Following his gaze, Xiao Li felt a wave of pleasantness wash over her, and she began to describe her ideas. The gentleman listened intently, nodding occasionally, his encouraging gaze boosting Xiao Li's confidence significantly.

During their conversation, Xiao Li learned that his name was Awen, a designer who also enjoyed creating and painting. Their topics deepened, ranging from creativity to life dreams, and it seemed they found common interests in every discussion. Xiao Ya quietly watched from the side, smiling as she enjoyed the atmosphere.

As time passed, the number of patrons in the café gradually dwindled, and the sunlight outside softened. Xiao Li suddenly realized that her feelings for Awen were growing stronger, and she began to look forward to his next visit.

"If given the chance, I hope to read your novel," Awen said at last, with a hint of anticipation and encouragement.

Xiao Li nodded, her heart filled with excitement and anxiety. This encounter might become a turning point in her creative journey. As they said goodbye, Awen gently held Xiao Li's hand, saying, "I look forward to seeing you again."

A warm sensation surged within Xiao Li as she watched his figure disappear through the café door. She silently vowed to write her novel well, so Awen could see her efforts and achievements.

When Xiao Li came back to her senses, she found Xiao Ya smiling at her, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Looks like you made quite an impression on him."

Xiao Li shyly smiled and lowered her head, but within her, new inspiration and storylines were already brewing. This serendipitous encounter not only ignited her creative spark but also opened the door to an unknown journey, planting the seeds of hope deep within her heart.
